Renaud Favier – February, 10th (China time), 2013  – Café du matin à Paris

Should the Tour de #France be seeking a red carpet elsewhere like other French businesses ?

Bicycle Race

Depardieu from Paris to Russia ; French soldiers from Afghanistan to Tchad ;  French car and other industries to Morocco ; Paris-Dakar raid from “French” Africa to Patagonia and Tour de France in Corsica : so what, now, if Armstrong talks ?

1817493_3_1812_l-interview-de-lance-armstrong-par-oprah_bda1c144ec87b863d53d3eda1a9e60ff

England seems attractive, all the more since most French sportspeople already live there if they can speak English, but it is not an option for real summer bicycle races, due to weather conditions, and because the British advertisers are busy with the Wimbledon tennis tournament in July.

Oldshool Bicycling

One needs a glamorous country with a high tolerance for drugs habits of outdoors professional politicians sportspeople (otherwise, real performers may not join), cheap wireless internet and a respect for environment (otherwise, real advertisers could withdraw).

Clean Bike

Too bad if Paris is no longer an option due to that drug thing : they are 100% glamour, 100%  professional and 100% ready for the 100th bicycle Tour de France, there. Besides, many hotels propose cheaper rates for early checkout.

Pro-Cycling Paris Style

Corsica could be an option : it’s green, beautiful, and French ; the roads are euro-subsidized and the water is drinkable in most places ; and people don’t seem to be as drug-friendly there as in continental Europe. But it may take some time for the people there to learn French, not to mention English ; the local gangsters should refrain from shooting (no, not shouting, this would be considered offensive, not polite, in Corsica) at each other during the competition (and not shoot at business people’s German cars when the French media is not busy with a war or football elsewhere), and it should be confirmed they can find a decent floating hotel for the international media and French politicians, now that they have crashed their flagship Napoleon Bonaparte in the harbour or Marseille.

After all, as roads in Africa are too hectic, the drinking water is not reliable in Chinindia, and Brazil is busy with football and the Olympics, let it be simple and let’s deal with Qatar, another proud leader of global “Francophonie”, as usual in France these days.

All U need to know about couac happened (or not) in France last fortnight (or so)

You know you should not ever trust what you read on the front page of The Economist about France, or continental Europe, for that matter …

Never.

Really never.

Never, ever.

Definitely.

That being said, every rule has its exception …

But better read a (free) “Café du matin à Paris” in French every day to know what is really happening, or not, in Frogland these days ( http://renaudfavier.com/ ) and/or click on the hereafter pictures for a shortview (backwards, which seems more appropriate for France) on recent events (or non-events).

November 16th : the French Senate aborted a project of tax on Palm Oil. Nobody would have cared, had Nutella not seized he opportunity to launch a 50/50 lobbbying-advertising campaign.

November 15th : something smells in Corsica (a murder, as usual), but as nobody knows nothing, and nobody would talk if anybody knew, and nobody saw or heard nothing of course, nobody really cares, all the less, since France has a lot of stinking cheeses everywhere.

November 14th : first big press conference by the French President, François Hollande, at Palais de l’Elysée. Many French citizens listen to the President, more twit, write and talk about what he said (or not).

November 13th : the French, especially the Parisians, try to be nice with everybody, as it is THE day of kindness worldwide and they know a day lasts only 24 hours. So do the Germans, however hard it may be, in certain cases.

November 12th : THE week of the Beaujolais Nouveau begins, the French worldwide start talking and thinking about it rather than about anything else, though noboby can drink it before Thursday, as a matter of French principle and French tradition.

November 11th : The French talk about dead soldiers including Charles de Gaulle (it used to be a great general of theirs, before it became the major Air France Airport) and all wars they lost without losing their sense of humour and of “Grandeur”.

November 10th : The French discuss about litterature and season’s French “prix littéraires” like Goncourt and Renaudot …

November 9th : the French are happy, that Xi Jinping, the new World Leader (based in Beijing), drinks red wine and hope he will not drink Chinese beverages only in the years to come and they will be able to export some of their wines to China.

November 8th : the French hope, that somebody will be able to help for Europe’s, and specially France’s socialist economic recovey.

November 7th : the French are happy that President Obama was re-elected in America, as they alread know him, the Washington airport and the twitter account for their questions.

November 6th : the French consider French communities management to foster competitiveness.

November 5th : Super happiness among Paris politicians not on trip abroad (like President Hollande) and journalists not on season’s holiday, the über-expected Gallois report on Gallic (garlic ?) competitiveness is officially delivered to Prime Minister Ayrault and widely spread on the internet.

November 4th : some French are reading about real competitiveness.

November 3nd : France is getting damn serious about competitiveness.

Real serious : playing hard, working hard !

November 2nd : a prayer for France, its taxpayers, and its creditors, all equally dead.

November 1st : France is THE romantic country and will remain so forever, and death can nothing against l’amour, toujours …

October 31st : the French celebrate Halloween, like everybody else in the real world, but don’t tell them, the believe they have invented it (too).

October 30th : the French socialist politicians are having fun inside (France) whereas there Perfects Storms are outside (France), everywhere in the economy and around New-York and Haïti as far as heavy rains are concerned.

October 29th : the French managed to sink their own boat (again) in their own harbour (again) and the Napoleon Bonaparte (not again !) is at bay 3 meters away from the pier in Marseille Vieux Port. Please don’t pay attention.

Again , so French

October 28th : the French go for winter time. Every is happy to be allowed to sleep one hour more, and the trade unions warn the (ir)relevant minister that this should happen every night, otherwise they’ll go on strike.

October 27th : the French discuss among themselves about drugs and how it could improve their international competitiveness, after Lance Armstrong was denied his “Tour de France” victories.

October 26th : the French brainstorm with partners on business intelligence and practice new French economic diplomacy to try and improve their external trade huge deficit (second only to Britain, as often enough).

October 25th : France is waiting for Louis Gallois’ report en French competitiveness and its whereabouts. Severe haircuts are expected from the French minister of finance, Pierre Moscovici, though some people have their doubts.

Some French are not just waiting, but working, and writing too.

#FF @ Xi Jinping, who joined the G2 Club. Hopefully the World Managers will accept a G5 board

The quiet victory of Xi Jinping in China is not as twitted and buzzed as President Obama’s clean sweep of Mitt Romney between a storm and a snowfall, but the cook of the World’s Savers Club must prepare world food for two (or more) now. Fast.

But as we have (in most parts of the world) reached the XXIst century, full club membership should of course be authorized for ladies.

And as a matter of gender balance, a second Lady is advisable for dinner.

But of course, a Gang of Four may not be everybody’s cup of tea in the Club. Then, who else ?

Ladies first.

And why shouldn’t that be enough to do the job, folks ?

Provided the 5 don’t forget about nature, climate, biodiversity and all that stuff the ecolocrats discuss once a year on the beach with a daiquiri or Champagne.

Provided the 5 don’t forget about peace, economics, education, employment, security, food, health and all that stuff our local leaders should take care of but apparently can’t cope with (especially in a sustainable, win-win way).

Provided, that at least one of the 5 twits now and then in English about where we all are aiming at, now that e-world-democracy is here to stay.

Tea (green please), coffee (black of course) or wine (French if possible), whatever works as long as we can have Champagne (French of course) for Xmas and prepare for a Happy New Year 2013 …

Everything you did’nt dare (or care) to know about what happenend (or not) in France recently (or so)

Some French politicians talk and meet about competitiveness ; some French civil servants have (long ago) written about it, and all French entrepreneurs think they must lobby, die or escape for it, rather in France. It’s “cheat or trick” time, French way.

October 23rd : the French watch the crisis on TV and discuss about Louis Gallois, French budget, French promises, French politics, French industry, made in France, French lost competitiveness and other living deads and ghost reports Halloween, or vice-versa, but nobody really cares, especially in France.

October, 22nd : half of the French minsters gather to discuss about France, fashion, and old book (a report by a former civil servant with an experience in the real economic world, more precisely, but reports get piled unread exactly the way most books do) and the season’s holiday to come, what else ? They decide they must talk more before they read anything clever, say anything clever or think anything, and meet again sometime after season’s holiday with more experts, politicians and something better to eat, or maybe later, or maybe not.

Maybe somebody should tell the French about real life the way it is now (and has always been, but don’t tell them, they would suicide or corner the Prozac market), that being rich and famous without working anymore or being really smarter or stronger with bigger guns (and guts) than others,  is no longer possible in #RealWorldXXIstCentury. That Romnesia is an option only if you a have serious savings and/or can be paid over 100 grands or more for small speeches. But that French Diseases is for … French, careless teenagers and soldiers at wars like in “good ole past before AIDS”, unlucky, non mormon, professional soccer players or politicians at whores, nowadays … And that death is an option, even if U are very very very much smarter than others, not that very very very old, at least compared to the Greeks, the Romans or the Egyptians, with a vision for a great future and a good sense of humor (tumor ? tumeur ? tu meurs ?) and a-propos.

October, 21st :  a view to a -French- kill a Corsican lawyer was murdered, most likely by Corsican gangsters, or nationalists, or both, in Corsica in his German fast car. Corsican business as usual, but as this happened in a Total Gas station, the French send the police as they don’t have James Bond to kill and kiss.

October, 20th : A French minister advertised for various “made in France” products, whereas the minister’s dame advertises for made  in France (very expensive) glasses. Some French people talk, think and/or read about it in a Paris newspaper. And some fashion-victims buy the tee-shirt. But nobody cares, although maybe the French ought to before it’s really to late for France and the French.

October 19th : the French #LMAO about a French Minister who #LMAO on TV about what he believes to be a fake about one of his colleagues who is in the habit of saying and making #LMAO things about made in France, but really hit world class level this time. Sometimes, in France, politics, TV, an even politicians on TV can be fun.

Sometimes, the French (ministers) have a good sense of humor, but it must be hoped, that both ministers (and some others) have a good, golden parachute. Because even in France, U needda work sometimes, even if U R a (sociali-s-te) minister.

October, 18th : French (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 17th (or 18th, or 16th, nobody really cares about schedules or other logistics, in France) : French (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 17th too (nobody is really afraid of replays, in France) : French (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 16th : French (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 15th : French FREEFALL (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

Somebody (Angela Mekel ? The Swiss bank-st-ers ? The French “djeuns” ?) should maybe tell the French professional politicians when they are back from Toussaint RTT in Marrakech that tourism in beautiful sites and dialogue social in nice places cannot be the “mamelles de la France” in the XXIst century and that “l’économie vide-grenier” (in English or any other normal language in the world and the rest of the universe with a brain : “Frenchonomics“)  may be a logical option if eveybody emigrates and/or sells the real-estate, churches and other privileges to Qatari billionnaires or British retirees, but is not a very good “trajectoire de croissance durable et environnementale et compétitive et toussa-touça dans la justice et la bonne humeur” in the long run, not to mention that appart from few jobs for butlers, cleaners, cooks or whores in Asian or Qatari hotels for Russian oil billionnaires, American old millionnaires and Chinese marrying youngsters and other young businesspeople in Paris, what else to #occupy (and feed) the djeuns ?

October, 14th : French (alas) Green (or so they pretend) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 13th : French (alas) African (or Qatari, or Chinese, or American, or simply multinational, whoever better than the French, now) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

Meanwhile, in old France, French lobbying and communautarism are at work (the unemployed and retired basically share the vision of the civil servants (or so they still are named), but not all the revenues, and those who work share neither, but they are a minority (report ?) and some not even live in France any longer if they could not manage to find a good “#geonpi niche”) … October 12th is off for blog writers without RTT just like for civil servants and other “damnés de la terre de France”, that’s the way it is !

October, 11th : a French (free) good and funny and sexy eBook (or so the self-called “writer” with a writer’s cat thinks it is). Because E L James ; Fifty Shades of Grey sex books are so bad now … and the portions are so small … is good, but Christmas and good jokes come more often.

October, 10th : French (alas) small talk about French food and French small business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 9th : French (dark past, gloomy present and frightening future) foie gras and export business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 8th : French (vision of the law of the jungle) business lunches and (of course) deals between the (fat) cats and (fat) #geonpi (or so some French “pigeons” believe they are) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

In a nutshell, nothing new under the French sun.

The French just keep thinking about themselves on TV or in French magazines ; watching themselves on TV ; talking about themselves on TV or in French magazines singing and laughing with a French accent and French clothes on (not only French) TV or (not only) in French magazines or international conferences, as long as ; they can speak English usual since they have TV and French magazines, but often with a better view when it’s (some) women talking and thinking (and counting).

So French, So Good

Bonus

All you always wanted to know about last fortnight (or so) in #France but were afraid (didn’t care ?) to ask

The French are in a bad mood. But how come ? They live in (one of) the best countries in the world, they can come and go to and from Brussels, Geneva or Montecarlo whenever they want, and they have (one of) the best foods of the world.

October, 8th : the French argue about pigeons, or #geonpi, fort that matter. Nobody really undestands what this French mess is all about, but it must be a French tradition to go for pigeons as they don’t celebrate thanksgivings. Maybe they already can’t afford “poule au pot”, or “foie gras”, or even plain “pâtes aux truffes” anymore.

October 7th : the French discuss geese Fashion. How could they possibly complain about that ? Appart from the fact, that Paris no longer is the world’s capital city for fashion, and that the French have bought German cars and fashion for a while, and consider Chinese ones, now.

October 6th : the French discuss French cars at Porte de Versailles. How can they possibly waste time discussing such lame ducks ? It must be a French tradition of some kind at that time of the year, another French paradox.

October 5th : the French discuss socialism and luxury bags. Whatever works, if they like it …

October 4th : the French discuss about time. Not Time magazine, but past, future, present, that sort of things. Everybody got lost in (time) translation.

October 3rd : the French discuss good old times, when Citroën convertible cars were real big convertible cars, French world leaders were real big world leaders, and #MondialAuto was real big Salon de l’Auto de Paris.

October 2nd : some French discuss books and litterature, that sort of thing they consider as important as food, love and politics, whereas moste of the rest of the real world thinks it’s basically a business like any other kind of art that can make money.

October 1st : the French discuss Handball. Some Blues seem to have got caught red handed, somehow. French sport business as usual, nobody cares, but some French.

September 30th : the French forgot to complain (it was Sunday, but usually, they don’t stop complaining just because it’s Sunday). Anyway, that was quite enjoyable for the rest of the word, as when the French stay in their own comfort zone (without talking), it’s magic Sunday for all others.

September 29th : the French discuss the French budget for 2013. No comment, everybody knows they are very good at discussing but very bad at budget, and the result can’t be very palatable. Who cares anyway (but some French) ?.

September 28th : the French discuss foreign cars. No comment, real French lovers should not need that, but if they like it, whatever works and it’s better to ride a German Panzer than to kill endangered animals, for the same absence of results.

September 27th : the French twit about the iPhone5, like the rest of the world (for once).

September 26th : the French President discusses Syria with some diplomats and chiefs of states at the UN while other world leaders play with their iPad, prepare for their own speech, or read their emails or notes, depending on wheter they have run out of smartphone battery yet. Not even the French care (about Syria). (Nb the French also discuss unemployment in France, that day, but let’s talk about it later).

September 25th : the French talk about Chili con carne. Nobody in the world can possibly believe that, but that’s the way it is, now, in the country of the French Paradox. That must be “le changement”. Let them talk about French foods (French fools ?).

September 24th : some French politicians try to talk about environment. Let the French ecolocrats talk together and discuss against themselves.

September 23rd : some French are going with the wind (at Coupe Icare, near Grenoble). Let them fly under the sunshine.

September 22nd : some French don’t laugh. Let them try and find a good joke.

September 21st : some French laugh. Some others don’t. Let’s not interfere, it’s their own problem if they don’t all have the same / a good sense of humor.

Nothing really new under the French sun last fortnight (or so) : some laugh (at France or in France, that’s just geography), some don’t (in France, or about France, that’s just history), and other folks just work (like the Germans or Chinese), or just don’t work (like the Greeks or those people with a lot of oil under their feet), but nobody is really afraid by France anymore really cares to ask about France anymore.

Where do the #French go ? Very Bad Trip ? The Answer, my Friend, is Blowing in the Wind …

German reunification and the Euro were the last big footsteps for small Europe, which mankind watched on TV. Now, if the French wanna try reborn socialism with gay marriage, no food, no Euro and no free press, let’s see about it on the internet.

If some other broke European countries wanna join second class Euro(pe), be it because they too wanna believe in utopias because they think dreams are better nightmares than real life, or because they have no more choice than Eastern Europe after WW2 or German democrats after 1933 elections or the free world after 1929 crisis, let’s not start a war for that and remember what the previous French socialist Leader Maximo, François I, used to say before Germany reunified : “I love Germany so much, that I am happy there are two”. Everybody loves Euro(pe) so much, let François II create its Europe II with the Club-Meds (and perhaps let French German speaking Alsace-Lorraine and Northern German thinking Italy stay in Berlin/Brussels co-managed Europe I to avoid the risk of WW3 this time, and let the Brits chose freely if they prefer to join Euro(pe) 2 for the sake of “Entente Cordiale”, Euro(pe) 1 in Memory of the German name of the Royals, the United States at last, or no new alliance yet because they wanna wait and see who wins, because they trust they can afford a Churchill/Elisabeth fortitude (though they are not sure America could/would help), again, or because they have the Commonwealth and they think it’s enough to rule the Pacific waves again in the coming brave new Asian world. Anyway, if you cannot avoid it, watch it.

And if some French wanna escape this France, let them do : some will choose Germany in Memory of their ancestors (be they collaborators or Europhiles, or both, or neither but just German speaking for some Reason) and because they like German beer and free driving ; some will choose London for the sake of “une certaine idée de la France” and because they prefer lower taxes and fish and ships to Currywurst ; some will go to America because they have got used to slow driving and poor coffee or want to do business with Asia but prefer junk food to Chinese Soup or Japanese Sushi ; others will go anywhere but France, because they think people should be allowed to work and get paid for it and create entrerprises and make money out of it and not be insulted for that whatever works, but France. Of course, some of the French press will say that such people don’t deserve the honour of the Grande Nation’s citizenship : let the media talk as long as they can and let the French walk their talk, as long as they can …

Honni soit qui Noah’s (tax strategy) Ark y pense …

As the French (economic advisor to François II, Karine Berger and co-writer Valérie Rabault) say, “Les trente glorieuses sont devant nous”.

Let it be (French ?) and hope it will not last 30 years.

It’s not as if it could last 70 years anyway, the world has changed. And even Franch laws and promises and advisors and polls and media ownership can change, re-change, re-re-change …, be they in favour to or against more or less (usually silly) taxes, marriage, the size of housing or the price of electricity, for instance, with the exception of the petit livre rouge du code du travail and the dialogue social(iste), et environnemental à visage humain, of course, even if all this goes against economic rationale and/or European laws, if the exception française or the next elections so require …

After all, France is “LE Pays de la Raison“, isn’t it ?

French Politics, European Politics, Future with or without Civilized Face, Whatever Works or even more important issues like the proper temperature for  Sauternes Sweet Bordeaux White Wine with Foie Gras (some drink Red Bordeaux with Foie Gras, as long as they do it at home without witnesses …) or the Religion of Groucho Marx French Ancestors.
