My goodness ! France at war against talent, now ?

la-une-choc-des-inrocksIs France killing art and passion ? Fighting against its own artists and talented people ? Read more about it here : http://renaudfavier.com/2013/01/16/si-armstrong-balance-a-la-tv-faudra-til-delocaliser-le-tour-de-france-comme-depardieu-renault-ou-le-dakar/

Germany and France will celebrate the Golden Jubilee of their “Entente Cordiale” in Paris

angela-merkel-francois-hollande-merkel-hollande-reuters-930620_scalewidth_630

Of course, it’s not as glamorous as a Queen’s Jubilee, and The Economist, French citizens from French speaking  London and other France, Germany, and/or Euroland bashers may smile at “la souris accouchée par la montagne franco-germanique”.

Annee-franco-allemande-Cinquantenaire-du-traite-de-l-Elysee_largeLet’s read a bit more about it anyway :  http://renaudfavier.com/2013/01/20/la-cinquantaine-cest-un-bel-age-en-tout-cas-cest-de-circonstance-pour-celebrer-le-traite-de-lelysee/

Bonus : some may like more glamorous (and British) Jubilees.

Wouldn’t the world be nicer if somebody gave a Green Card to Gérard #Depardieu ?

Green Card

Of course, our world will survive if Depardieu escapes to grey Belgium, white Russia or anywhere else where people from France can get a red carpet welcome, if they can afford a palace and a few glasses of Champagne. But 2013 could be nicer.

Don’t (ever) believe the French (media & politicians) : Gerard Depardieu is not the (only) French Bad Boy

The bonus

Everything you did’nt dare (or care) to know about what happenend (or not) in France recently (or so)

Some French politicians talk and meet about competitiveness ; some French civil servants have (long ago) written about it, and all French entrepreneurs think they must lobby, die or escape for it, rather in France. It’s “cheat or trick” time, French way.

October 23rd : the French watch the crisis on TV and discuss about Louis Gallois, French budget, French promises, French politics, French industry, made in France, French lost competitiveness and other living deads and ghost reports Halloween, or vice-versa, but nobody really cares, especially in France.

October, 22nd : half of the French minsters gather to discuss about France, fashion, and old book (a report by a former civil servant with an experience in the real economic world, more precisely, but reports get piled unread exactly the way most books do) and the season’s holiday to come, what else ? They decide they must talk more before they read anything clever, say anything clever or think anything, and meet again sometime after season’s holiday with more experts, politicians and something better to eat, or maybe later, or maybe not.

Maybe somebody should tell the French about real life the way it is now (and has always been, but don’t tell them, they would suicide or corner the Prozac market), that being rich and famous without working anymore or being really smarter or stronger with bigger guns (and guts) than others,  is no longer possible in #RealWorldXXIstCentury. That Romnesia is an option only if you a have serious savings and/or can be paid over 100 grands or more for small speeches. But that French Diseases is for … French, careless teenagers and soldiers at wars like in “good ole past before AIDS”, unlucky, non mormon, professional soccer players or politicians at whores, nowadays … And that death is an option, even if U are very very very much smarter than others, not that very very very old, at least compared to the Greeks, the Romans or the Egyptians, with a vision for a great future and a good sense of humor (tumor ? tumeur ? tu meurs ?) and a-propos.

October, 21st :  a view to a -French- kill a Corsican lawyer was murdered, most likely by Corsican gangsters, or nationalists, or both, in Corsica in his German fast car. Corsican business as usual, but as this happened in a Total Gas station, the French send the police as they don’t have James Bond to kill and kiss.

October, 20th : A French minister advertised for various “made in France” products, whereas the minister’s dame advertises for made  in France (very expensive) glasses. Some French people talk, think and/or read about it in a Paris newspaper. And some fashion-victims buy the tee-shirt. But nobody cares, although maybe the French ought to before it’s really to late for France and the French.

October 19th : the French #LMAO about a French Minister who #LMAO on TV about what he believes to be a fake about one of his colleagues who is in the habit of saying and making #LMAO things about made in France, but really hit world class level this time. Sometimes, in France, politics, TV, an even politicians on TV can be fun.

Sometimes, the French (ministers) have a good sense of humor, but it must be hoped, that both ministers (and some others) have a good, golden parachute. Because even in France, U needda work sometimes, even if U R a (sociali-s-te) minister.

October, 18th : French (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 17th (or 18th, or 16th, nobody really cares about schedules or other logistics, in France) : French (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 17th too (nobody is really afraid of replays, in France) : French (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 16th : French (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 15th : French FREEFALL (alas) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

Somebody (Angela Mekel ? The Swiss bank-st-ers ? The French “djeuns” ?) should maybe tell the French professional politicians when they are back from Toussaint RTT in Marrakech that tourism in beautiful sites and dialogue social in nice places cannot be the “mamelles de la France” in the XXIst century and that “l’économie vide-grenier” (in English or any other normal language in the world and the rest of the universe with a brain : “Frenchonomics“)  may be a logical option if eveybody emigrates and/or sells the real-estate, churches and other privileges to Qatari billionnaires or British retirees, but is not a very good “trajectoire de croissance durable et environnementale et compétitive et toussa-touça dans la justice et la bonne humeur” in the long run, not to mention that appart from few jobs for butlers, cleaners, cooks or whores in Asian or Qatari hotels for Russian oil billionnaires, American old millionnaires and Chinese marrying youngsters and other young businesspeople in Paris, what else to #occupy (and feed) the djeuns ?

October, 14th : French (alas) Green (or so they pretend) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 13th : French (alas) African (or Qatari, or Chinese, or American, or simply multinational, whoever better than the French, now) business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

Meanwhile, in old France, French lobbying and communautarism are at work (the unemployed and retired basically share the vision of the civil servants (or so they still are named), but not all the revenues, and those who work share neither, but they are a minority (report ?) and some not even live in France any longer if they could not manage to find a good “#geonpi niche”) … October 12th is off for blog writers without RTT just like for civil servants and other “damnés de la terre de France”, that’s the way it is !

October, 11th : a French (free) good and funny and sexy eBook (or so the self-called “writer” with a writer’s cat thinks it is). Because E L James ; Fifty Shades of Grey sex books are so bad now … and the portions are so small … is good, but Christmas and good jokes come more often.

October, 10th : French (alas) small talk about French food and French small business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 9th : French (dark past, gloomy present and frightening future) foie gras and export business (or so the French believe) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

October, 8th : French (vision of the law of the jungle) business lunches and (of course) deals between the (fat) cats and (fat) #geonpi (or so some French “pigeons” believe they are) as usual (or rather “normal”, or so the French think). Please click to read in French (because so the French write, and write, and write, and talk, and talk, and talk … and don’t read, and don’t listen, and don’t think, and promise, and promise, and promise and vote, and vote, and vote, and again, and again, and again …).

In a nutshell, nothing new under the French sun.

The French just keep thinking about themselves on TV or in French magazines ; watching themselves on TV ; talking about themselves on TV or in French magazines singing and laughing with a French accent and French clothes on (not only French) TV or (not only) in French magazines or international conferences, as long as ; they can speak English usual since they have TV and French magazines, but often with a better view when it’s (some) women talking and thinking (and counting).

So French, So Good

Bonus

All you always wanted to know about last fortnight (or so) in #France but were afraid (didn’t care ?) to ask

The French are in a bad mood. But how come ? They live in (one of) the best countries in the world, they can come and go to and from Brussels, Geneva or Montecarlo whenever they want, and they have (one of) the best foods of the world.

October, 8th : the French argue about pigeons, or #geonpi, fort that matter. Nobody really undestands what this French mess is all about, but it must be a French tradition to go for pigeons as they don’t celebrate thanksgivings. Maybe they already can’t afford “poule au pot”, or “foie gras”, or even plain “pâtes aux truffes” anymore.

October 7th : the French discuss geese Fashion. How could they possibly complain about that ? Appart from the fact, that Paris no longer is the world’s capital city for fashion, and that the French have bought German cars and fashion for a while, and consider Chinese ones, now.

October 6th : the French discuss French cars at Porte de Versailles. How can they possibly waste time discussing such lame ducks ? It must be a French tradition of some kind at that time of the year, another French paradox.

October 5th : the French discuss socialism and luxury bags. Whatever works, if they like it …

October 4th : the French discuss about time. Not Time magazine, but past, future, present, that sort of things. Everybody got lost in (time) translation.

October 3rd : the French discuss good old times, when Citroën convertible cars were real big convertible cars, French world leaders were real big world leaders, and #MondialAuto was real big Salon de l’Auto de Paris.

October 2nd : some French discuss books and litterature, that sort of thing they consider as important as food, love and politics, whereas moste of the rest of the real world thinks it’s basically a business like any other kind of art that can make money.

October 1st : the French discuss Handball. Some Blues seem to have got caught red handed, somehow. French sport business as usual, nobody cares, but some French.

September 30th : the French forgot to complain (it was Sunday, but usually, they don’t stop complaining just because it’s Sunday). Anyway, that was quite enjoyable for the rest of the word, as when the French stay in their own comfort zone (without talking), it’s magic Sunday for all others.

September 29th : the French discuss the French budget for 2013. No comment, everybody knows they are very good at discussing but very bad at budget, and the result can’t be very palatable. Who cares anyway (but some French) ?.

September 28th : the French discuss foreign cars. No comment, real French lovers should not need that, but if they like it, whatever works and it’s better to ride a German Panzer than to kill endangered animals, for the same absence of results.

September 27th : the French twit about the iPhone5, like the rest of the world (for once).

September 26th : the French President discusses Syria with some diplomats and chiefs of states at the UN while other world leaders play with their iPad, prepare for their own speech, or read their emails or notes, depending on wheter they have run out of smartphone battery yet. Not even the French care (about Syria). (Nb the French also discuss unemployment in France, that day, but let’s talk about it later).

September 25th : the French talk about Chili con carne. Nobody in the world can possibly believe that, but that’s the way it is, now, in the country of the French Paradox. That must be “le changement”. Let them talk about French foods (French fools ?).

September 24th : some French politicians try to talk about environment. Let the French ecolocrats talk together and discuss against themselves.

September 23rd : some French are going with the wind (at Coupe Icare, near Grenoble). Let them fly under the sunshine.

September 22nd : some French don’t laugh. Let them try and find a good joke.

September 21st : some French laugh. Some others don’t. Let’s not interfere, it’s their own problem if they don’t all have the same / a good sense of humor.

Nothing really new under the French sun last fortnight (or so) : some laugh (at France or in France, that’s just geography), some don’t (in France, or about France, that’s just history), and other folks just work (like the Germans or Chinese), or just don’t work (like the Greeks or those people with a lot of oil under their feet), but nobody is really afraid by France anymore really cares to ask about France anymore.

Great #Draghi saves #Euro(pe) : Visible and Invisible Hands do the Job, but Who Writes the Story ?

Everybody agrees, that Mario Draghi has done a very good job over the last few months and a great performance last Thursday, which might as well have been quite black for Euro, Europe, the markets and real people. The invisible hand is happy.

Byzeway, Great Draghi sounds like Great Gatsby, but it’s just phonetics. Or is it ?

Dog Days For #Frenchonomics, but #France has a #Plan for #Competitiveness

Dog Days for France and its economy, including for the once so successful French Exports. But, France has a “Plan” (“roadmap” in non marxist economic language) for competitiveness and all that needs (serious) fixing in the best and brightest of countries.

The best and brightest bought many German cars and Rolex watches, since François Mitterrand introduced “une certaine idée de la social-démocratie à la Berluti” and Jacques Delors’ daughter “une certaine idée de l’économie et du travail”. Some people also complain about the Euro, but this is a side-factor to the French loss of … mind(s)

Not that the situation be unsustainable yet, but as IMF, OCDE, S&P, ECB, WEF, Roubini, Angela Merkel and other stock exchange, markets, ecology and weather optimistic experts would say : “It’s grave, serious and worsening“, which is of course not a good reason to lose the sense of humor into the bargain.

Fortunately, France has a top secret French plan.

And everybody on earth wonders about “The New Soviet Frenchonomics Plan”.

Many competitors in the world are frightened by The Napoleonic French Plan.

Spain and Italy no longer waste the money they don’t have like the Greeks or French sleep at night (which is not really a problem as most people are unemployed there : either they are civil servants or just they are not employed at all, so they can sleep all day, and anyway everybody sleeps by all means every afternoon for “siesta” and gets special siesta bonus due to summer heat).

Even the Capitalists Chinese fear the Socialist French Plan …

Only the realistic Germans don’t care. But they never do when Fantasy France speaks, thinks, paints, draws, plays, sings or writes instead of working. Besides, they are busy because they don’t have 45 days of summer holiday like the French (which partly explains some things about the respective competitiveness of both neighboring but so different countries).

And everybody the Brits laugh (LMAO) about the “Grande Nation” French Plan. But they always do about France as a matter of principle (and because they know France all too well). Besides, they are so happy with their incredibly dry summer weather and their medals at the London Olympic Games, and so drunk celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee, the Commonwealth resilience and the fortune their banksters make cheating on the Libor, dealing with Iran, money laundering and surely many other Cititricks, that they laugh all the time about that good “Tapis Rouge” joke by David Cameron at the Los Cabos G20 Crisis Summit everything.

But the French never mind about facts in real life the Brits, the Germans, or whoever usually, or newly, beats them at football sports, exports, war, business, economics, Scrabble, gastronomy, arts, haute couture, car building, bérets basques, chicken, olympic games, #occupy (or whatever doesn’t work anymore in France as the French don’t work).

Stop talking, walk the talk !

Why the Hell should the French care about details ? They have real problems to solve (like the prix of the baguette which pourrait augmenter if the government ne fait rien, with la hausse des cours du blé, the réforme of the PAC et la sécheresse dans the other countries producteurs, et ça serait bad pour l’inflation, le foreign trade and the climat social) and important issues to think about.

Classical French way of walking the talk …

Anyway, they love to hire the best and most expensive international consultants and advertisers (not to mention lobbyists), as they know there could be conflicts of interest, political bias or technical mistakes if they just read the numerous reports of their “Cour des Comptes”

Classical French way of not walking the talk

Though they could just read the 2012 Terra Nova report on the issue of competitiveness by Louis Schweitzer and the late Olivier Ferrand : “Une politique globale de compétitivité pour la France“…

… or the reports of their Conseil d’Analyse Economique

… or the reports de l’observatoire de la compétitivité (Luxembourg)

… or the report of la commission Attali (2008) …

… or le rapport Ruef-Armand (1960) …

…or something about  Jacques Coeur (century XV) …

… or even less appropriate and reliable (because in English, among other reasons, and French don’t read English except at wartime, and they have not understood yet, that the world is at economic war, and they don’t trust what is not written by and in French anyway) WEF notes, OECD papers or EU laws or … whatever works.

All this may help, at least, it cannot (h)arm more (armoire ? armure ?) the French competitiveness.

All the more, since they have organized a “dialogue social”summit (the French call that kind of things a “Grenelle” or a “Banquet Républicain”, depending on the number of meals and quality of the food, foreign journalists say “Frogs Party with a Champagne Cocktail“) before their summer holiday, where they didn’t talk about competitiveness, of course, but realized it could be an issue.

And  since they have elected appointed new dream teams and administrative task forces to copy write reports (to tell the truth, they have a talent to write reports, and even schools, diplomas and elections for that) in economic war rooms and propose … yet another plan.

Karine Berger, a former (d)economist and co-writer, was parachuted and elected as socialist Députée somewhere in the French countryside in June 2012 and some journalists believe that she could have been appointed as a Secretary for Foreign Trade but missed the opportunity due to some gas leaks in Guyane. God only knows … (but to tell the truth, her book is less stupid than the title that was chosen for marketing)

God can make miracles bless France … (the good news is, the French believe in many Gods and they know for sure that : “Impossible n’est pas français”).

In socialism and dialogue social God (and Gallois) the French trust … So, they have planned, plan and will plan, again and again(st all ods) …

Eureka !

And they trust the French their Frenchonomics may work (Frenchonomics rule 2 : “sur un malentendu, ça pourrait marcher”, rule number 3 being :”Le prix s’oublie -especially when paid by taxpayers or future taxpayers-, la qualité reste -unless somebody cheated on the contract which tends to happen with so called public money-”).

Or not, as usually happens when the socialists (or whoever, in fact, with very few exceptions since Mr Louis XIV died) rule, but they don’t care that much as long as it lasts (Frenchonomics rule 1 : “Pourvu que ça dure …”).

Then, if “doesn’t work”, go to London ask Angela with your best romantic smile, to ask for more croissance money, as usual (Frenchonomics rule 4 : “The Germans can and must pay, if you don’t know why, they do !”).

Frenchonomics …

Soon, the French may have to call the IMF, or sell some more hotels and paintings, or write some more reports, or escape to London or waste less or … work more realize the world has changed more than France, whatever their professional football players politicians may say.

It’s 4G, Stupid !

Because France should change strategy for call centers, consultants, recruitment procedures, summer holiday habits, whatever doesn’t work and cannot last much longer.

France ought to think work  different.

France could read another a book for free (which is good news, in view of their budget situation).

France can twit different (Yes we can … Twit Higher, Faster, Farther … Smarter).

The Red Carpet of Cannes is Over (and wet), Vive the Dry, Red Clay of Roland Garros Paris !

The “bad” news is, the weather was quite rainy on the red carpet this year and the Festival de Cannes is already over without a … French winner. The good news is, sun is expected for the next French show to go on, on red clay at Roland Garros, Paris.
